My Own DIY Home Improvement Project

Starting a DIY home improvement project can be an exhilarating journey toward transforming your living space. Whether you’re looking to revamp a room or tackle smaller upgrades around the house, the process of taking a vision and turning it into reality is incredibly rewarding. By handling these improvements on your own, you not only get to customize every detail to your liking but also gain valuable skills and a sense of accomplishment.

I am sharing you my experience in handling DIY home improvement projects. I started by looking for home inspiration. Hope this helps!

1. Fresh Paint: One of the easiest and most impactful DIY projects is a fresh coat of paint. Revitalize any room with a new color that reflects your style and creates a welcoming ambiance. With proper preparation and a steady hand, you can achieve professional-looking results that will leave your guests in awe. I personally love the neutrals that Sherwin Williams has. I’m in the process of choosing a new color palette for our future home. My current favorites are Sherwin Williams, snowfall for the walls, ceiling bright white for ceilings, high reflective white for trim and light French grey for cabinets. If I do an accent wall in our home I’ll probably go with peppercorn and I may use this color for our kitchen island as well. www.sherwinwilliams.com

2. Installing Shelving: Enhance both storage and aesthetics by installing shelving units. Whether in the living room, kitchen, or bathroom, shelves provide a practical solution to display decor, organize essentials, and create a personalized touch. From floating shelves to simple bracketed ones, the possibilities are endless.

We changed out our builder grade wire shelving for this. As you can see there was only one wire shelf. After removing the wire shelving and all of the hardware we added shiplap. We then added 6 wooded shelves. The added storage is amazing! (All supplies were purchased at Home Depot). www.thehomedepot.com

3. Updating Cabinet Hardware: Give your kitchen or bathroom a budget-friendly makeover by updating the cabinet hardware. Swapping out old knobs or handles with new ones can instantly modernize the space and add a touch of sophistication. It’s a quick and satisfying DIY project that yields impressive results. These are from Amazon and are great! They come in three different finishes and various quantities. https://amzn.to/44xF8oL

4. Creating a Statement Wall: Elevate the visual appeal of any room by creating a statement wall. Whether with a bold paint color, wallpaper, or even a DIY accent wall using reclaimed wood, this project adds personality and interest to your space without breaking the bank or requiring advanced skills.

5. Installing a Backsplash: Transform your kitchen or bathroom with a stylish backsplash. With peel-and-stick tiles or easy-to-install mosaic sheets, you can create a beautiful and functional backsplash that protects the walls and adds a touch of elegance to the space.

The one I’m considering for our kitchen backsplash and laundry room and powder room floors is Doverton Gray 10.5 in. x 28 in. Textured Clay Brick Look Floor and Wall Tile. www.thehomedepot.com

6. Up-cycling Furniture: Give old furniture a new lease on life by up-cycling it. With a fresh coat of paint, new upholstery, or creative modifications, you can transform an outdated piece into a unique and stylish addition to your home decor. Get creative and let your imagination guide you.

7. DIY Floating Shelves: Maximize space and create a modern look by installing DIY floating shelves. These sleek and versatile shelves can be customized to fit any room and offer a chic display area for your favorite books, plants, or decorative items.
